Mike Bastine is the Director of College of the Canyons’ Uniquely Abled Academy (UAA).

Mike hails from the Buckeye State of Ohio, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Ohio State University. He entered the Air Force and retired from a Space Operations career, with his final assignment being at Vandenberg AFB.  During his military career, Mike earned and MBA in Project Management and oversaw the building of space surveillance systems and satellite command and control platforms.  Mike then worked in the aerospace industry as a Senior Systems Engineer for TRW in Redondo Beach building global space operation networks, before beginning his career with the California Community Colleges.

He has served as a college administrator and faculty member collaborating with business communities on various workforce education initiatives, to include – apprenticeships, internships, externships, and contract education.  Mike has developed the college’s UAA program.  The graduates attain industry-recognized credentials and the program has achieved over a 90 percent placement rate.  Mike also is a regional director, which involves collaborating with, and provide training for, manufacturing industries to meet their workforce demands, and to enhance manufacturing’s competitive position in a global economy.
